Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, and Opera have trouble with certain pages-weird
I'm running a AMD 2500XP system with the following:
XP professional SP2
DSL
AVG Anti Virus
Zone Alarm Firewall
I just got my dsl connection a few days ago. Ever since then, I have been experiencing the following problem:
When using any browser(Firefox, IE, Netscape, Opera), if I try to load:
Yahoo.com
NewEgg.com
Cnet.com
The images will not load. The rest of the page loads(text and format), and it appears to hang while trying to load the images.
I have already checked the basics like ensuring that images are allowed in the browsers, and that images are not restricted to the current site.
I also did a ipconfig -flushdns to see if that would clear anything up, it did not.
I have also ran the following:
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
etc etc in hopes that they would fix the problem.
I have Spybot S&D, updated and it's given my a clear result.
I have hijackthis and it's log is found below:

Which I think looks fairly clean.
If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I'm at the point where I am contemplating manually uninstalling XPSP2 and trying to get it back that way.

I know this is a real head scratcher, but I really need any ideas, please.
Thank you.

Were things OK before this new DSL connection?
If so: what were you using before? What now? (ISP)
Try running only one browser at a time.
What makes you think SP2 is a problem?
Turn off the SP2 firewall if using ZoneAlarm but also Try turning off ZoneAlarm just to test.
Also test points: turn off Purge IE. Turn off Microsoft Anti Spyware. Turn off Adobe.
Turn these off one at a time just to check for conflicts.

Hi and thanks for the help. Let me answer your questions in order:
Things were fine before the DSL change.
I was using www.gvtc.com and am now on www.gvec.net
Normally I only use Firefox, and keep explorer for compatablity purposes. I just downloaded the others to test things out really.
It's not that it's a SP2 problem per say, but if it's a problem that is based in IE, you have to uninstall SP2 manually and then reinstall SP2 as IE was changed and the one on your XP disc(older SP1) will no loger be recognized.
--However, the more I look at this thing the more I can't help but think it's a problem in either: A. The Cable Modem or B. The cable modem's settings.
Turned off those apps, didn't mean to have purge and adobe lingering around. No visible change/conflicts from any combo of the three.
If I were to begin troublshooting the software side of my connection, how should I go about doing so?
Again, if I were to troubleshoot the hardware side of the connection, any tips or thoughts?
Hardware is Alvarion Breeze (never heard of it before installation) and I have no idea how to mess with it. As you can probably tell from my ISPs, I live in a rural community and broadband(in this form) is just now reaching my land
I really, truly appreciate your help, thank you.

It is strange how it only happens on those particular sites. It could be a problem with your ISP. At the moment this problem is happening on a few other sites for myself and others with the same ISP as me. Have you tried contacting your ISP?
-
Hi and thanks for writing in,
I've spoken with them, and they couldn't wrap their head around the "certain sites only" thing.
I can't really say it's likely to be the isp itself, as I have used their dialup service before with great results and none of these issues. However, that doesn't mean their choice in cable modem brand, firmware version, or configuration is flawless or not the culprit.... I wonder.
I must admit it is really strange. Having the new dsl modem, I have to keep going back to that as a probable cause. Maybe...
Have you traced your problems and others at your isp's problems to something identifiable? Or right now the only known connection is your choice in isp?
Look forward to getting to the bottom of this,

Ours problems were different as we couldn't access the sites at all. Interesting seeing as they all seemed to be US sites. Here is the thread. You could try accessing through a proxy server... that would rule out a problem with your actual pc if the sites work okay using a proxy. I am having big problems now as I can't access any of our own sites that are hosted on my server but other people can.
