    firefox against IE

This is seriously annoying me. If I have a window open in firefox and someone sends me a link to anything using messenger IE takes over my browser. Does anyone have a solution? Billy Gates begged to come for supper but I had to refuse.......... I had business comittments. I should have begged him to stay but didn't want him sneaking in on my pc. Who knows what he would get up to.. Last time he was here he just spent the whole day on kazaalite trying to download an illegal copy of windows.
See things like that annoy me........ I had to eject him manually.

Opening a link within a Microsoft application (MSN Messenger; Outlook Express; Outlook; Windows Update) will open Microsoft's browser (IE).

You cannot remove IE from XP due to their inextricable natures.

You can Turn Off IE via Control Panel | Add/ Remove Programs | Add/ Remove Windows Components

I assume this will just give your links a DNS error.

As to Firefox: I've been using it for many months but started to realise how much slower it was than IE. (I discovered this by having IE open via e-mail links btw). I noticed thru TM that Firefox was running idle @ 10% whereas IE runs idle @ 1%.

Also during a debugging lesson from joehobart he introduced me to a net meeting format that required IE. It is hard to describe but it brought out the powerfull nature of IE.

I have simulated Firefox's Tabbed Browsing by opening multiple instances of IE. With no extra CPU usage btw.

Anywho I am back with IE & All Critical Updates !!!

I got fed up with OE links opening in IE so I just set all html type files to open with Slimbrowser. Should work the same for Firefox.

I wouldn't mind links opening in IE it's just that it closes my firefox browser. Eg:- If I was in the middle of a post on here and someone sent me a link via MSN the firefox browser would close and I would have to start all over again.
BTW I have always found firefox to be much faster than IE until the last few months. I have been blaming sygate and my router. I don't want to disable IE as sometimes links posted on forums will only work using IE.

I've noticed a real slow down in FireFox since the last upgrade(fix?)to version 1.0.3. I'm not blaming anything but FF for this and hopefully they wiil fix it in the future. I'm using a fully patched I.E. 6.0 for browsing now and keeping my fingers crossed.

I havent seen a slowdown in FF even with the latest update...I switched because I didnt want to be asked everytime I fish a pic off of a website if I am sure I want to do this...

Part of my job is to collect photos of Business Jets that are forsale and puthtos pics into our database...With the last IE update it started to ask me everytime "Are you SURE you Want to do this?" Do you know how annoying that is with 20 pics you have to grab!

I know I cant get rid of IE due to the Windows Update, but GotomyMeeting is superior to Netmeeting in every aspect.

BTW, Jaynee, My daughter wants something to happen when she clicks your "Butterfly"

I found out it was sygate slowing FF down. It was still interferring even when it was disabled so now I have uninstalled it and everything is back to normal. I am not bothering with a firewall now as they all seem to cause me problems. The router firewall will be enough for me.

"Sometimes, software can be the victim of its own success," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant with security firm Sophos. "With Firefox increasing its market share, we're not surprised that people are both looking for security holes and also looking with the intent to do something malicious."
