    IE6 always goes to "runonce" screen

    I'm running XP pro with several users set up. My account is ok, but the whenever the other users start IE6 - they are always sent to the msn "runonce" page

    http://runonce.msn.com/en/runonce.asp

    and theres the following entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main for "First Home Page" :

    http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&ar=runonce&pver={SUB_PVER} &plcid={SUB_CLSID}

    I've tried deleting this entry, but as soon as the users fire up IE6 again.. it reverts to what it was before.. and the users see the runonce page again.

    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks!

    Sounds like they don't have permissions to update the registry entry with the intended home page after they've seen the MSN RunOnce page for the first time.

    Go to the Run prompt and type Regedt32. Browse down to the appropriate registry hive (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft.......) and, once you've found the entry for the Home Page or Start Page, use the Permissions menu to give all authenticated users read/write access to it.

    All of my XP users are local admins so I haven't seen this issue before. I'd be interested to hear whether my suggestion resolves your issue

    Hi - and thanks for your reply. I think I've figured out what the problem was. Without Adwatch running, the other users didn't have this problem. As soon as I fired up Adwatch up again, it immediately updated their portion of the registry with the "runonce" entries.

    I think the problem was caused by the order in which I set things up. I've since removed Adaware/Adwatch, set the users home pages and then reinstalled Adaware/Adwatch and all is now working fine.
    Many thanks for your help.
