CAN"T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING

Re: CAN"T DOWNLOAD ANYTHING
Your version of IE is out of date & you have no service pack for XP.
What happens when you try to download from Windows Update?
If you cant get the updates at least try to update IE via:
How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP
Also what type of XP CD do you have?

This is what you should see in the first two lines of that log:
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)
This is perhaps the whole problem.
Can you describe exactly what happens when you try to download @ Windows Update?
To view an error log go to Start | Search | windows update.log
Post back just the most recent errors. There will (or should) be a large log there.
Perhaps we can troubleshoot the errors there.
There is also a troubleshooting tool on the left hand menu of Windows Update.
There is also this newsgroup dedicated to Windows Update:
microsoft . public . windowsupdate
As I mentioned; if the above doesn't help you probably need to repair XP.
How this is done depends on the type of XP CD you have.

^ ^ I've been having the exact same problem as the original poster in this thread, and I've tried everything that's been suggested up until this point. I read your post, bob123, and lo and behold, my documents folder had been set to read only. I'm not entirely sure why, but it was.
After changing the permissions for the folder, it STILL will not let me download anything. It is very frustrating and I really do not understand why it's being the way it is. I've tried everything.
