    links wont work

This is doing my head in!

I cannot click links between sites anymore or upload mpegs/jpegs etc, all that happens is a box appears which does nothing and just the old eggtimer!

The box has Microsoft Internet Explorer at the top and looks fine - just no link - no pic no nothing.

Working on XP - just uploaded IE6.1 nothing helps.

    Hi,

Firstly I would scan for Spyware if you haven't already - downlaod and run SpyBot and Ad-aware then let us know.

Did that - I ran a virus disk on Saturday because I had that countdown & shut off virus thing (and something called trojan) and the program told me to bin adware & spybot.

I ran the adware & spybot after trawling through some old threads on the 'old' forum last week.

If I run spybot etc again will my antivirus tell me to 'bin it again.'

The antivirus is etrust EZ antivirus protection version 6.1.7.0

    what do you reckon?

As an example those two links you gave .....

If I left click we sit all night and look at a eggtimer.

if i right click 'copy shortcut' drop into the address bar - alls ok!

I'm sure someone else must have had this annoying prob

    Hi Chaz

Sorry for delay it getting back to you. How long have you had the problem? I was wondering if you had tried using Xp System Restore to back to when the system was OK ?

Sorry for the delay - been away....

Funny you should say that - I got that trojan virus thing (the one that shuts the system down) and used system restore - that helped but never got shut of the virus. A techie friend of a friend then ran an anti virus and installed a firewall (EZ firewall lite it's called and supposed to be the bees knees - so far it is fingers crossed) since he put that on I've had this infuriating problem on IE.

The system restore, strangely enough will no longer allow me to choose a date in the past? I'm not over worried at this cos I dont need it at present but that should work anyway.

Anyway my worry is if SR did work the problem on IE I have at the moment goes back to before the PC was disinfected so wouldn't that cause more harm than good?

You said that since the firewall was installed you've had this problem. If thats correct then its highly likely the firewall is stopping the pages loading. On my ZAPro I have to enable session cookies for trusted sites, allow javascript etc to see animations etc.
You may need to go into the firewall and look at the settings it's on, read the help section and try altering settings, taking note of the original settings first so they can be restored if necessary.
