Do you know how to take a screengrab and post it here?
Go the Start Menu and click 'Run'. Type msconfig and click 'OK'. There should be a tab in the Msconfig screen that shows all the things that are set to run when your PC starts up. Maybe there's still something dodgy in there.
Take a screengrab and post it here so we can see what's listed.
In any case, your PC is now a bit tidier and you shouldn't have any more potentially dangerous browser hijackers
I can do the msconfig, but I don't know which tab I'm supposed to be looking at and I don't know how to send you the copy of the screengrab. Can you help me with that?
I didn't do the msconfig thing. However, today that error seems to be gone. What would cause it to appear and disappear like that? ANyway, now I have another problem. My printer won't work. I contacted HP and they had me uninstall and try to reinstall the software, but I am getting an error when I try to do that. I wonder if it has anything to do with this line that you told me to remove earlier:
O23 - Service: LexBce Server - Lexmark International, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE
Here is the error I am getting when I try to reinstall the printer software:
Print Spooler (Spooler): The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled, or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
Can you help with this? I really need to have my printer working, and I'm not having any luck with that. HP was sure what they told me would work, but it hasn't. I don't know where to turn now, but I desperately need some help.
Open hijackthis again.
Click config then backups, highlight
O23 - Service: LexBce Server - Lexmark International, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE
and click restore.
Reboot.
If the printer still doesn't work that line won't be responsible.
when i try and access internet through IE toolbar i get invalid syntax error, have had to set homepage to google and search from there, here is my hijack this log
Hi, I had this same issue...on Windows 2000....I'm not an expert but here's what i did to remove it: looks to me like it's related to the HP wireless printer I installed recently (did not see this with initial install but it appeared after an HP "auto-update"-thanks HP!).
Fix:
1. From the "Start" menu, choose "Run" and type in "regedit" and clik OK.
2. Highlight "My Computer"
3. Under "Edit" choose "Find" and type in "overland" and click OK
4. Delete the Registry entries for "overland"...there are a bunch of them (probably 12-15)-so you'll need to do a "Find Next" after each one until you've gone through the registry.
