    number of bytes sent received

    Hi
When logged on to the internet, the number of bytes sent is anything up to the number of bytes received by up to 5 times. Is this a problem?
I use Windows XP, I run norton antivirus 2004 as well as zone alarms pro. I have also run xoftspy a few times, the system is much faster, but still sends a huge amount of bytes - why?
help to understand / sort any potential problem would be appreciated.
    Thanks

That is a little odd, in most cases the bytes sent and bytes received are close to the same. I think you may have some programs trying to phone home I recommend you download, install, update & run both Adaware & Spybot Search & Destroy. Have both programs fix any problems found and see if that helps. Please let us know how it goes.

    Hi Bear
    Thanks for your help
I ran Spybot, but haven't run adaware yet - partly because spybot warns that adaware may pick up and highlight spybot files for destruction... Did you have this problem? Spybot found stuff that xoftspy didn't, and bytes sent has decreased, but is still running at nearly twice the speed of bytes received - should I run adaware despite the spybot warning?
    thanks

Yes you can safely run both, I do and have for years. It's a great combination what one misses the other one finds

    hello Bear
Really weird results. I ran both adaware and spybot - got rid of loads of stuff. Everything ran really well briefly, then the send shot up to 10 times the received and it all looked pear-shaped for a bit. This evening, Norton has picked up adclicker virus and sorted it. Ratio is now 1 send : 4 received. Can't say as I have much idea what's going on, as I'm not exactly a computer buff, but if it stays that way I'm happy. Thanks for your advice - it really helped. (if you have any ideas why send received shot up in ratio after running the spyware stuff, I'd be interested to know more about how all of this works to be better prepared on the future!)
    Thanks again
