    Unhappy Java Buttons don't work

For some reason, if I go to certain websites, I can't click the java buttons and have my Internet Explorer open up the java buttons. These are the internal links such as login buttons or buy buttons. I am running IE5.5 SP1. Virus scans, spyware scans, enabling javasript, turning off firewalls all done. Can't upgrade to 6.0 because this is an old work laptop and I don't have administrator's access. I don't think that would solve the problem anyway as I have seen others who have had the same problem to a clean install of 6.0 and it apparently did not help. Also this problem is recent and just a few days ago all was working well.

Let me know what you think.

Further to my original message above, when I do click on one of those buttons the error message I get is: "Problems with Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly. Line: 337 Char: 3 Error: 'null" is null or not an object Code: 0 URL: http:\\ www. etc.

I'm afraid if you don't have Administrators access, your going to struggle. You crucially need to install Internet Explorer 6 and then get yourself a copy of Sun Java.

Thanks Owen. Any ideas to work around the lack of admin access. I can't download 6.0 without it. I've tried.

Can you not get somebody with Admin access to do this for you? And what Operating System are you running?

No, the company is gone. Windows 2000. I figure that something happened in the last few days that made this difficulty arise. Can't it simply be reversed or fixed?

Right, could you try this for me. In Windows 2000 and XP if I'm not mistaken, by default there is an Adminstrator account when you load the system that is not protected by a password. If the company has a lousy technician, you may be able to type Administrator as the username and have access to the system with full Administrative rights.

No luck. Company was world class. Arthur Andersen

You are going to have big trouble fixing this problem because:
    1. You need IE6
    2. You don't have admin rights

The only thing I can think of is a format of the hard disk, but its not a pleasent job. I don't think theres any point in trying any other fixes because IE6 is the most important thing to upgrade to. Your version of Java VM will be out of date so this will cause problems as well because it may not be compatible with the latest standards.

Thanks again. Should I come up with a solution I will post it here. Take care.
