I need help! I have a Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP home. After a bad storm the pc would not work. I get a "Pre Bios Failure". Is this computer dead? It is still under warrenty but dell says I have to claim it on my homeowners insurence. The computer is only a year old.

I'd say its probably dead. Best thing you can do is contact you're insurer and they should arrange someone to check it out and repair or replace it.

I have contacted Dell and they said to file a claim with my homeowners insurance but I have a $1,000 deductable. Does me no good. Thanks for the reply. I knew this was true but wanted a different answer.

If there's a reputable pc repairer around, ring them and get a price to have a look at it and quote a repair price. It may end up cheaper than your deductible t pay for the repairs yourself. Have a look into surge protectors as well. If you're in a stormy area its a good investment.
