Smile Is this system any good

I have an HP Pavilion ZE 4430 laptop that was purchased a year ago that came with the following:

    - ATI Radeon IGP 320m

    - Mobile AMD Athlon XP at 1.05 GHz

    - 24x CD-RW/DVD combo drive

    - 512 MB RAM

    - Conexant AC-Link audio

    - Windows XP Home

I'm not sure if my system is good for gaming, so I'm going to ask you guys if you think this system is good for gaming.

Assuming that this is the same laptop that you described the other day in another thread, then it should be OK for most games.

If you're trying to run some of the latest stuff, then you'll probably wish you had a faster processor.

Personally, I'd never choose a laptop as a gaming machine though. For one thing, you've got a smaller screen (even though it may run at a high resolution) and, although I really like ATi graphics card, the on-board one that you've got is stealing 64Mb of your main system memory ..... and you can't easily replace it with a newer graphics card if you want to.

On-board sound is always fine for most people, whilst the really dedicated gamers would probably prefer a good surround sound setup. Even with on-board sound in a laptop though, you should still be able to buy a 2.1 speaker system (2 small satellite speakers and a subwoofer box), which will make a HUGE difference over the built-in laptop speakers.

If I wanted to start playing a lot of games and all I had was a 1GHz laptop, I'd probably buy a second hand base unit and monitor off an Internet auction site (such as www.qxl.com) - that way, you can get better graphics and sound, as well as a faster processor, and upgrade it whenever you want so that it's good at whatever you like.

Hope that helps. Basically, what you've got should be fine .... but it could be better

I think I got the sound setting correct on my laptop because it is hooked up to a 1000 watt amplifier and a surround sound system which includes 7 satellites and a 1000 watt subwoofer! My graphics have been increased greatly by using the adapter's S-Video feature to link the monitor on a 52 inch plasma display in my living room. With S-video there is no use for screen resolutions while playing a game, what I mean is you can play in the lowest resolution but havse the best quality display! That is why I urge people who are mobile gamers, to take advantage of S-video on ati cards.

So what are you asking us then? I think you've answered your question yourself - it's FANTASTIC !!

..... but, one day, you'll probably want a faster processor
