    Cool Voltage issues......

I have recently built a system based on a 2.8Ghz, 800Mhz FSB, Pentium 4 processor, it is NOT the prescott version.

With my mobo i received a utility called 'AI Booster' (mobo is Asus), the utility measures and analyzes all the main figures from each of the systems main components, in terms of voltage, temps etc.

I have noticed that from time to time the voltage meter of the CPU reaches the maximum of the small dial on the utility which is around the 2.90v+ mark. After reading the documentation that came with my pentium 4 processor, it clearly states that it should have a max voltage of 1.525v, now, i am confused whether it is safe that there are recorded voltages of considerably higher than this value running through the CPU, and also whether it is safe to change the BIOS setting of [AUTO] for a custom voltage of 1.525.

Is this at all a problem, could damage be caused to my processor if this continues?, please could an experienced user kindly answer these questions for me.

    Thanks.

Without going off and doing a little research with regard to this specific processor, my instinct would be to go into the BIOS and set the voltage manually as you suggest.

I'm a bit busy at the moment but, if you want to go and take a look at Intel's web site for further info, click this link:

Believe it or not, there are SIX different models of Pentium 4 2.8GHz (800MHz FSB) processors !

You'll need to go to Intel's web site (using the link I gave earlier) and select exactly which one you have. If you don't know, don't worry - they have a utility that you can download to identify what's inside your PC
