    Wink Display properties

When my sister goes to display properties there is no tabs showing.
    Themes/Desktop/Screensaver/Appearance/Settings.
All the Values Are set at 0 for these,so I beleive this is not the problem.
They recently got a new motherboard with onboard graphics, this problem only occurred when they got this.
so could the problem be caused by this.
when you click the + sign next to Display in device manager it has 2 icons.
1.via/s3g unichrome igp then underneath that it has 3D prophet 4000xt pci.
Is there a problem here,do they need Drivers.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Sounds to me like Windows XP has detected the new onboard graphics (if this is the S3 on-board graphics with a VIA motherboard chipset) but the old graphics card, which I'm guessing is the Prophet PCI card is still configured as well.

If the Prophet entry is for the old graphics card, select it in Device Manager and choose the Remove / Delete option.

    Then reboot.

If that doesn't help the problem with the Display Properties screen, you might need to go back to Device Manager and remove the S3 on-board graphics driver as well and then reboot again.

With no graphics drivers currently installed, Windows should then auto-detect and install the correct one.

Let us know how you get on

    trvlmb,

I've just got a private message from you advising that your relative did what I said and not their "hard drives have vanished". I'm a little confused.

Which bit of my suggestions have they followed? Did they determine that the 3D Prophet 4000XT PCI card was the old graphics card? Did they, therefore, decide to remove it from Device Manager? Did they reboot after that?

Then what happened? Did Windows load up properly but they found that the Display Properties screen still didn't show any tabs?

We'll be pleased to give some more advice but we need to know what it is that your relative has done to their PC.

Incidentally, did your relative fit the new motherboard themselves or did they take it to a shop to get it done?
