CD/DVD recognition problem
Pleeeeaaase help!!!
No matter what disk i put into the CD-drive, the computer sees it as an EMPTY AUDIO-CD. I thought it could be a problem with the CD-drive and changed it to another one (this time - DVD-drive). THE PROBLEM REMAINED.
I've uninstalled the drive from the Device Manager (in Safe Mode, not in Safe Mode)... the problem remained.
What can I do to fix it??????
THANKS A LOT

That's a bit peculiar. You've ruled out a problem with the discs or the drive so the only thing left is the connection to the motherboard.
Try replacing the IDE cable (if you don't have a spare one, swap it with the cable that goes to the hard disk if you are running them on separate IDE cables).
Alternatively, if the CD/DVD is on the secondary IDE channel, try connecting it to the spare position on the primary IDE channel (i.e. the spare plug on the lead that's connected to the hard disk).
If you change the primary/secondary master/slave positions, don't forget to go back into the BIOS and do an Auto-detect. If you've never done that before, you can see instructions in my article in the 'Members PC Help Articles' section of the forum.
