ATAPI not compatable
When I start up the pc it beeps a few times and says Atapi not compatable. Also it says the name of the cd rom drive but beside it says capable but disabled..... Both my drives are missing from my computer. I have checked the connections inside the pc and even replaced the cable going from motherboard to cd-roms. Can anybody help, please! its driving me up the wall!

Is this a system you've just built?
Are you sure the cd rom is compatable with the board?
Here are a couple links to beep code errors:
BIOS Beep Codes 1
BIOS Beep Codes 2
Have you tried disconnecting the cd rom just to see if the machine will then boot?
-
no, ive had it over a year. it just came out of the blue. i have disconnected the cd roms and the pc boots as normal.....
-
You have 2 cd roms? Have you tried one at a time to see if one or the other is the problem.
-
i tried it with only my dvd, and it was fine and worked perfect. when i used only the cd writer or both together it started happening again.....any ideas?
-
If it used to work ok & out of the blue it stopped I would suspect the cd rw drive to be faulty.
I would wonder how they were connected, master/ slave etc. or try 2 different cables, but as I say if it used to work ok then the connection shouldn't be an issue.
Do you have another machine to test the cd drive on?
-
i have the dvd as master and the cdr as slave. occasionally it would do this, but they would come back. this time it never came back! i dont have another to try it on.....
-
when you try the cd by itself do you put it to master?
are the jumpers set to cable select?
-
i put it as master.......
-
my guess would be that that drive is having problems.
is it old? what is the make & model?; maybe we can find a diagnostic for it.
