    CD Rom/DVD drives gone missing!

Any suggestion what might have happened to the CD rom and DVD drives, they have completely gone from the computer. Plugs etc are still in tact but the computer doesn't recognise that they are present.

Have gone into BIOS to put auto detect on but it's already on that anyway.

    Help needed please.

When your PC first switches on, the BIOS tests the memory and reports how much you've got and then it looks for all the drives that it is supposed to auto-detect and reports what it found. It will usually report the hard drive first and then list the CD-ROM and DVD drives. Does it show them in the list?

If not, then it may be a faulty IDE cable meaning that the motherboard doesn't realise you have anything connected.

If your CD and DVD drives are both connected to the secondary IDE cable, then you could test for a fault on it by connecting one of them to the spare plug on the primary IDE cable that the hard drive is connected to.

Could you also confirm that the drives have definitely go power to them by pressing the eject button on each drive to ensure that the trays pop out?

Let us know what you find and we may be able to help some more if necessary

I know this thread is old... but I'm having the same problem and I'm kinda hoping that someone can help me out. I've already tried messing with the wiring and I'm beginning to think the wiring is faulty. But if it's not, then I'm almost sure it's my mother board...

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Nanami,

If you've got a similar problem to someone else and you've followed some instructions that have been given for their problem, could you please post a new thread (stating briefly what your problem is and what you've tried), rather than posting a reply to someone's else's thread.

It can be very confusing trying to read 2 or 3 different people's problems within the same message thread.

You are also much more likely to get fresh ideas on YOUR problem rather than everyone just thinking about similar things to what they tried for someone else's problem which might end up being unrelated.

    Thanks
