    Spooler

I recently just fixed the network again, had to restart it all. But during that problem, i ran the network wizard and it wouldn't work for certain set ups like directly connecting. It would give me an error that said "Spooler Subsystem" and could not complete process. In the details it was with ntdll.dll and my friend tried to delete that registry, it was deleted from one subkey but not another, it would keep popping up and the name was %subsystem% or something like that. But i finally got the network on all 3 computers. But now the printers don't work. I can't add any printers, Lexmark is one printer i have, it installs the hardware fine, but it says the driver needs to be updated. I have a photo printer and its hardware cant be installed. I went to microsoft.com and read how to fix it with the registry and deleting subkeys in stuff in safe mode, but that didnt work. I disabled LexBce server and got the error "error 1068." When i enable it, i just get the error "error 3: the path specified cannot be found. This all worked fine until the network didn't work on one computer, then they all went out, and the router was reset.

I've never met your friend so don't take this the wrong way .... but are you sure he knew what he was doing? Deleting registry keys is VERY risky and can have catastrophic results.

From what I can interpret from your post, it sounds like you had print spooler subsystem errors so your mate deleted that bit of the registry and now there's no subsystem for the printers to install into !!

Is a Repair installation of Windows an option for you? What operating system are you running?

As for not being able to read a README file off of a CD, it doesn't sound like that's related. Can you view the file from that CD on another PC?

I cant read the readme file from the program. It gets an error. I have windows XP. If i do a repair installation of windows, would it clear everything i have? What about a system restore? I just ran a scan in "Run" for windows file protection and nothing helped. I have been having lots of problems with the installation wizard and such now. And lots of freezing all of sudden. I had some trojans and got rid of them all besides one because it was in use by windows. But why all of a sudden would i get an error for a spooler subsystem when the network went down.

I'm not sure why a network problem would cause such issues with your print spooler subsystem but I don't know why your network packed up in the first place.

If you have Windows XP, then doing a repair installation should not lose any of your data. It is likely to put on the original Windows XP files though, so you'll probably have to re-apply any Windows service packs and updates.

For this reason, using System Restore should be quicker and easier if you know of a restore point that reflects a time when everything was OK. Windows XP isn't my thing I'm afraid but I'm sure that someone in the Windows XP board on D-A-L.com can advise you better about System Restore if you need help with it.

Also, you specifically referred to NTDLL.DLL in your original post. You might want to see if you can retrieve a fresh copy of that file from the Windows CD. In Windows 98, there was a utility called System File Checker (go to Start Menu > Run > type sfc) that could extract an individual file if you had problems with it but I don't know if this exists in Windows XP.

Let us know how you get on
