DVD player keeps stuttering during play

I keep getting a slight pause or stutter when I try to watch DVD's, WMV's or play games on my PC,Everything will seem fine for the first 30 seconds then the picture will pause or stutter for a second and then resume it keeps doing this every 30 seconds as long as the DVD, video file or game is playing.

I checked my CPU usage and I get a spike everytime the picture stutters, the CPU usage will go from around 15% when playing normally up to 45-50% when I get the stutter then back down to 15% for another 30 seconds and then the same thing will happen.

I've got no idea what the problem is, all my driver's are up to date, everything seems to be alright in system properties and I cant find anything when I check for viruses or spyware other than DSOExploit when I run Spy-Bot.

Anyone got any ideas what the problem could be ?

    Thanks for your time,

    El Hefe

Disconnect from the Internet and then disable any anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall or other system maintenance program (e.g. Norton Utilities).

Does that make it any better?

One thing you could do if you are using Windows 2000 or XP is to Press CTRL SHIFT ESC to bring up the task Manager, and click the Processes tab

Right click your dvd player and click Set Priority to High

    Thanks for your time,

I clicked on Task manager and went to processes but I can't tell which program in the list is my DVD player, it's not listed as "DVD player" ,so I can't do what you suggested.

I'm using WinDVD but it's not listed as that in the processes registry and I can't work out which one it is.
