When I turn my laptop on the light comes on but the screen stays black.. What should I do???

For your problem, shine a flash light into the screen and look real closely to see if you can see the display. If you can, then that indicated an inverter or backlight problem and they can be replaced for around $50 to $150 for parts, plus about 1 hour of labor. If you cannot see anything, connect an external monitor and see if you see anything there.
