Crashed External HDD and Recovered Files

    Hello all,
Recently my WD 750GB External HDD crashed and I was unable to access it. After numerous attempts I used Diskgetor to recover my files. Some of the avi files that were recovered were, according to their info full sized but they only played 30 seconds of the file. I'm wondering if its an indexing problem with the file or something else. Any help would be great. Thanks,
    Dan

It is likely those particular files where corrupted during the crash and you recovered only what you could. I would run Error Checking on the drive.

Thanks Digerati for the reply. I had feared that the files would be corrupt. The HDD was completely RS I couldn't even complete an error scan on the drive. I was just hoping that it would be something as simple as an indexing problem.
If anyone else has any ideas please let me know.
    Thanks.

Well, I don't know what RS is supposed to mean but I assume mean it doesn't work. You can try another recovery program like Recuva from the makers of CCleaner but I suspect you will not have much luck.

And not to state the obvious but this is why viable backup plans are essential. ALL hard drives WILL [eventually] fail.

Yeah I understand that no back up medium is permanent, the HDD is now lives in the rubbish bin. Thanks for your help though.

    @ JohnRocks.
I used Diskgetor for this paticular problem, I have used it before and its proved to be a very effective program with a very east to use UI. What other programs did you have in mind?
