i have a gateway model w650a took the lcd inverter out, n has like melted rubber in middle of it, i hooked it back up and powered the laptop but nothing but when i touched a chrome thing on the inverter the screen started to light up ????? but i have a red light on batterie indecator ideas?

Sorry you are having problems. I think at this point, if you cannot see anything obvious like a loose connection or frayed wired, it is time to take the notebook to a shop.
