Exclamation New Graphics Card - Blank Screen

    Hi All.

    System spec:

    Intel p4 (775) 3.ghz
    MSI 7173 mobo
    2 GB ddr2 Ram - 2x1GB Sticks
    HDD
    xp media centre edition.32 bit
    500 watt psu
    Onboard sound
    PCI raillink turbo wireless lan.

Ok so i previously had an nvidia geforce 6500, it works fine.

i went and got the asus radeon 5570hd silent version ( 1gb ddr2 ram). Its on amazon.

Put it in but i get a blank screen, no beeps, nothing! Put the old card in, ta da! it works again.

after reading a bit lots say its a faulty g Card, but i know a bit about computers so thought i would ask here to see if there is anything else it could be? like needing a new mobo perhaps?

MSI live update cant update the bios on the mobo, it just hangs or doesnt even load live update 5, and if i try and reload it, it tells me its already running??

I have not tried the new card on any other pc because i dont have access to any

Im thinking i need a new mobo or do i send the g card back?

    Many Thanks all!

That appears to be a Gateway motherboard made by MSI. If that is the case, you should be getting the BIOS updates from Gateway.

Did you install the new drivers for the new card? Many cards require their own power connection. If yours does, ensure it is connected too.

The card does not require any power connections.

Ok so i need to update the bios from gateway, probably a silly question......how do i do that :/

Will i need to install the drivers before inserting the new card then?

I have removed all the old Nvidia drivers form my previous geforce 6500.

    Thanks

Usually. I recommend you read the installation instructions that came with the card.

The silly question is the one not asked. Go out to the Gateway Downloads page and see if there are any updates for your computer.

Ok, so i tried the card out in another PC, still no luck - so i thought it was the card.
I packaged it all up and printed off my RMA to send it back and i took the heatsink off of the cpu to apply a fresh coat of thermal paste, unfortunatly i managed to break the plastick pins of my 775 heatsink and didnt wanna pay £20.00 for a new heatsink for an old P4 cpu. instead i went and bought http://http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk...02298-pdt.html with the view of getting a new AM3 cpu in the not to distant future, and it came with a free ram upgrade to 2gb! Happy days!

I tried the new ASUS Radeon EAH5570 Silent card and it worked first time, so it was the board all along!

now the issue is: I have installed vista basic and business 32bt, however vista does not seem to be recognising the radeon 5570, it does not show in the device manager, and i cant get a crisp picture? its like it cant do HD!i have it plugged in to the HDMI port now and im looking at the screen as a type this with it running! my monitor is a 19" lcd TV but it also has DVI and HDMI so i know the screen is capable of it, plus i have watched bluray and ps3 on the tv.

all i want is to be able to play LOTRO in hd

    any ideas?

    Thanks in advance
