I just a few hours ago had to replace my chipset fan on my board. I replaced the fan Put everything back in and i get no beeps or post. i have tried everything to my knowledge. just to clarify i did connect the 4 pin so it isnt that. on the bottom of the case i can feel what feels like some sort of current. even with the mobo out and just the power supply in the case i can feel this current. once i unplug the power supply it goes away instantly. i dont understand why this is happening. the power supply was fine not two hours ago. i took all the usual precautions when removing and reinserting the mobo. im just kind of at a loss as to what is going on.
It is unlikely you replaced your "chipset". Did you mean your CPU?
If you feel current, or an electrical tingle when touching the case, then you have a wiring problem with the PSU, or in your walls. I recommend you IMMEDIATELY have your wall outlets tested. I recommend EVERYONE have a AC Outlet Tester, preferably one with a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupt) indicator as it can be used to test bathroom and kitchen outlets too. These testers can be found for your type and voltage outlet, foreign or domestic, at most home improvement stores, or even the electrical department at Walmart.
When you were working inside the case, did you unplug the PSU from the wall first? Did you observe proper and necessary ESD precautions to prevent zapping ESD sensitive devices (like CPUs, memory modules, and other ICs) with static?

I take it you mean the CPU fan. Are you positive all case motherboard "stand-off's" are tight?
No washers were lost during the process?
Recheck everything (connectors, etc) for full seating/contact.
Had the board tested it was fried, not to happy about it. and just fyi the fan i replaced was not the cpu fan but a 40mm chipset fan. which i have found are somewhat uncommon locally much to my dismay. the board will now post maybe every tenth time. i appreciate the responses and thank you for your time. got a new board in with that same power supply and case has been working fine. hopefully it stays that way
My apologies. Somehow, I missed "fan" completely in your post and I thought you meant you actually replaced the chipset. Obviously, my mind was not in gear.
I have no idea why, but you are correct that 40mm fans are hard to find. It has been that way for years. And it has been my experience that when I do find one, it typically fails soon too. So I stopped replacing them. Instead, I just remove the fan and make sure my case provides plenty of air flow through the case. With some motherboards, I have replaced the chipset heatsink with a larger one, designed for use without a fan - as a permanent, and noise free solution. Of course, monitor your temps to ensure all is okay.
I am glad you got your problem sorted out. Thanks for the followup.
