USB ports on monitor not recognized initially

Having issues with USB ports on side of Dell monitor. When I initially plug in a device, the cpu does not recognize it. I have to unplug and re-insert a few times for the cpu to recognize a device had been plugged in.

Gets a bit frustrating. I use the monitor ports because my desktop sits under the desk so its not as accessible.

    Please advise.

Basically, the monitor (and its USB cable) is acting as an extension cord for your computer's USB ports. You need to determine if the problem is with your computer, or the "extension cord" (the monitor, or its USB cable). So you need to pull the computer out and connect directly to the computer and see if it does the same thing.

I have used different cables with different devices and experience the same issue on the monitor.
Not experiencing the same problem with the cpu...recognizes the device immediately.
So would u say the problem is the monitor ports?

Looks that way. I would make sure their is no monitor menu option that disabled them. Other than that, assuming you want to keep the monitor, your other option is to buy an inexpensive, self powered (has own power supply) USB hub to extend your computer's port to your desk's top.
