Can't connect to the Internet
Hi,
I have an Acer netbook, running XP home, wirelessly attached to the DSL network via a Belkin Router. I also have two other laptops, one with wired connection, the other wireless.
The netbook connects OK to the router, but will not connect to the internet, IE8 just displays the page with the Diagnose Network Problem button.
I have checked all the settings on the netbook and cannot find any that would cause this problem.
I didn't have the problem with a previous Belkin router, so it could be the new router, but the other laptops are connecting no problem, though they are on W7 home.
Would anyone have any ideas, please?
Thanks.

How do you know you are connecting to the router? Can you see the other computers in your network?
-
OK. - Good point. The netbook says it is connected on the taskbar and looks as though it is, the "show network connections" does have it connected to that network, but, no, I can't see the other devices. Incidentally I connected an identical netbook, but which was running W7 and that had no problem.

Then I would suggest a security setting, perhaps firewall setting with that netbook. Does that netbook connect to other networks?
-
I don't have access to another wireless network, but it does connect using the LAN cable.
-
I might suggest you visit a local hot spot or neighbor and see if you can connect that way to verify your wireless interface is working.
-
Yes, I'll do that over the weekend.
Thanks for your help.

Tried to connect to a local hotspot and also through my iphone, but no success. This is beginning to look like the netbook wi-fi that isn't working.
