Jumping cursor on laptop
Hi
My wife has a Dell Inspiron N5030 (using Windows 7), purchased in April of this year. For some reason, when typing, the cursor will sometimes jump around all over the place, (The problem arose after a couple of months - not right away.) She's a touch typist so can sometimes look up to discover she's typing in a completely different line.
I've done some online searching and see that lots of people have this problem - and it affects different makes, not just Dell.
As far as I can tell, it only affects laptops. The most common suggestion seems to be that touching the touchpad causes it. She's tried typing slowly on the laptop (as have I), without going near the touchpad, and the problem persists. (Though possibly that's because it's already been 'activated' - ie because the touchpad was previously touched?)
Has anyone else had this problem? I've seen lots of solutions I don't really understand. Some people have also suggested downloading something called 'Touchfreeze' - though this seems to work for some people and not for others. (Fort some, it seems to work for a while - then the problem starts up again.)
Any help gratefully received - as ever!
Thanks,
James

In some cases the touchpad is so sensitive, the slightest brush across it can send the cursor flying. Most notebooks allow you to turn off the touchpad so you can just use a mouse. I recommend you try that. Check your owners manual - it is typically a Function Key combination. Fn + F9 on my Toshiba notebook that is used to cycle it on and off.
If it still goes flying with the touch pad off, then scan for malware. If clean, contact Dell since this is still under warranty.
