Exclamation PC Keeps freezing help please!

    hello forums greetings.

after looking the internet for days I have come to these forums in hopes of a solution for my problem.

My computer was working fine with its 160 hdd until I decided to get a 1tb hdd. Then all hell broke loose. Now it keeps freezing 3 mins after I logged on. I had a 600w psu then I bought a 1000w psu thinking it needed more power but still freezes.

So, here's my question: what is causing the freezing on my pc?

    Here are my specs:
    Psn 5 mobo
    Intel core 2 duo 3.0GHZ
    4GB crucial ram
    1000W Kingswin Psu
    1TB Seagate HDD
    3 Sony DVD DL drives
    Geforce 460 GT
32 in. Samsung hdtv using mini hdmi

Did you replace the 160Gb HD with the 1Tb? That is, is the 1Tb now your boot drive? Did you reinstall Windows? And did it start to freeze immediately after that?

Freezing can be caused by many things - making troubleshooting difficult. The PSU is a common cause, but you have tried 2. Heat is another common cause. Is the system free of heat trapping dust? What are your temps?

Bad RAM, failing motherboard, leaky capacitors, bad drivers, failing graphics all can cause freezing problems.

upgrading from 160gb to 1TB seems like a problem for me.

Even the Bios can see the 1TB new HDD, the mobo HDD controller may have difficulty handling that.

I would suggest check with the mobo website and see if any latest Bios is needed for 1TB HDD to work smoothly.
Getting a latest mobo chipset driver is advisable as well.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

It is a hardware problem or it can be a BIOS setup problem. It can happen in many ways – Computer hardware might not be installed correctly; mother board’s jumpers are set incorrectly; computer or its peripherals have been shorted out; or it can occur due to some other mechanical problem. Though these could some of the reasons, sometimes it is difficult to pinpoint the exact reason. When the display stops working, the remedies should be worked out one by one.

Just got another suggestion, recently we have repaired a computer with similar freeze problem.
We run the diagnostic and all hardware are ok.

After several tries, the question in the HDD data cable that got torn and wear out at the edge.
Short data cable may just like the faulty HDD controller problem causing the system shorted and OS freezed.

Hope you can try this suggestion and save some money on repair.

    Cheers!
