Hi all,

I have a HP Pavillion DV4 about 3 yrs old, running Vista. When I power up, the lights come on on the keyboeard, but nothing on the screen. There is also a clicking noise from the DVD/CD drive. I have tried to boot from a disc with no result. I am thinking this is a dead HD issue, any thoughts?

You say 3 year old laptop and the first thing I think of is battery, or power supply. Have you tried it without the battery?

Try the following to discharge and reset your laptop first.

Please remove all removable parts like DVD, exteral USB device(if any), remove battery and unplug the AC adapter, then press the power button over 15 seconds do not let go.
Then, connect the AC adapter only and power on the laptop again.
