    Boot up and Crashing?

    Hey there,

First time posting on here so i'll just dive right into it. my PC just recently started behaving erratically. For Example 2 days ago when this issue came up I noticed while gaming that the computer itself was extremely slow. Thinking it was the game I began to snoop around my computer run a couple different programs and even just surf the web...

Sometimes It acts normally then without instance it almost locks up....

I've tried a system restore even run some minor repairs, uninstalls or useless programs, clean ups....

yet even today the computer had a problem booting, took 7 times of restarting for the computer for finally boot. At first I thought it was maybe a Virus I had picked up, Full AVG virus scan showed nothing, I reseated my ram as well, Nothing, my CPU core is at 40C so its not a heating issue.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Some of the quick specs

    AMD Phenom X4 955 3.20 GHz
    4GB Ram

    64 bit Win7

    ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series

If you need anything else you can respond here.

Any help would be much appreciated. ^_^

Never post your email address in public. Sadly, badguy routinely troll forums, chat rooms, and social networking sites looking for valid email addresses to spam or sell.

Starting problems typically indicate power, POST, or drive issues. As a technician, when it might be hardware, I want to start at the wall. Assuming the outlet is wired right, I would want to ensure I have good power by testing or swapping in a known good PSU.

And while your CPU temp is great, heat in the graphics or other areas could be a problem. Other causes could be failing RAM, failing motherboard, leaky capacitors (mostly on older motherboards), or as you noted, malware.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind about the email, I figured it was a hardware issue from the get go, My roommate has the same ram that I do, and once he woke up this morning I switched mine out, So far its been on for about 1 hour no issues, so I'm guessing I have an issue with my ram and I have already submitted an RMA ticket through there company, I am going to continue stress testing it over the next hour or so and reply back, Thanks.

Alright so an update...and this is weird....

I took my roommates ram and everything seems to be working...HOWEVER my ram is working 100% in his computer...

Now I also did reseat the ram in my computer the first time so I don't think it was that....

I'm Also afraid to try and move my ram into a different slot as the problem of the computer not even running would come back...

Everything is almost back to normal EXCEPT...I now blue screen 1-3 times a day if the computer is on for about 18 hours....A memory dump restart blue screen....

    Any ideas/help?

I am about to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything but idk if that will fix anything.

A reformat and reinstall is ALWAYS the last option for many reasons. (1) It sets you back months or even years in critical updates. (2) All your data and downloaded programs are deleted. (3) You don't learn the original cause of the problem to prevent recurrence. (4) If hardware related, reformatting and reinstalling Windows is likely to not fix it.

The BSOD should give an error code and message. Note that BSODs are most often caused by hardware or driver issues, but could also be caused by heat. Make sure your temps are good, fans are spinning, and the interior is clean of heat trapping dust and dirt.

When it crashes today i'll get some of the codes...

I don't mind reformatting as I store almost everything on an external drive.

    I'll update you asap

Try reset the bios default, reseat the HDD data cable, reseat the PSU connectors to the MB.

If still the same problem, check the MB for the faulty hardware like HDD controller ...etc.

    Hope this helps.
