Thanks for the suggestions. I've installed the chipset drivers and done the Pitstop driver scan which said that everything is up to date.
Last night it did it again, I've noticed that it doesn't totally crash if I give it enough time. I waited 5 whole minutes and it came back to life and started acting normally.
Did you have a look at 'Event Viewer'?
Meanwhile,
Download and install CCleaner from the following link:
CCleaner - Standard
During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar.
Click on Tools:
- Select Uninstall >Save to text file (install)
- Select Startup> Save to text file (startup)
- Locate and open each saved file in the Documents FOLDER. Copy and paste their contents into your next post.
I've looked at the event viewer but there are so many different errors I don't know where to start. Should I post some up here?
Here's the text file from Ccleaner:

The above tells me that you are inadvisably and simultaneously running two (2) real-time antivirus tools [avast and microsoft security essentials (MSE)] which is likely mainly responsible for many of your current issues (including the excessive/repetitive volume of event viewer 'error' messages).Yes HKLM:Run avast5 "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\avastUI.exe" /nogui
Yes HKLM:Run MSC "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\msseces.exe" -hide -runkey
Uninstall one of those conflicting tools and report back.
Thanks. I've uninstalled Avast so we'll see what happens!
