I have a Compaq Presario SR1103WM, about 5 years old. It stopped recognising the cd drive, a Samsung cd r/rw SW252S. The cd drive shows up in device manager with a yellow exclamation point. It does not show up in My Computer at all. I checked the cables and it is still connected to the motherboard, also it shows up in the BIOS as the secondary master. The cupholder opens and closes just fine, and the light comes on on the front of it but I can"t hear it spinning when I put a CD in.The operating system is Windows XP Home.

You have got to be joking. That isn't a cup holder so I hope that you aren't using it as one.

Your drive is probably worn out. They don't last forever. They are really cheap on NewEgg.
