Question HP Pavilion a6000 -- HYCOM HY-05 -- High Pitch Noise

My HP Pavilion a6000 makes a long high pitch noise when turning on, then stops for 3 seconds and then the same long high pitch noise, and doesn't get started. When opened it up, the noise was coming from HYCOM HY-05 with the "+" sign on it.

Can anybody please help me with advice?

    Thanks,
    Cecilia

That device is the system speaker. The beeps indicate a serious fault. Unfortunately, HP Beep Codes webpage does not help much without knowing the which BIOS your system is using. You might inspect the motherboard again and see if you can see a label for Award, AMI or Phoenix.

In any event, I have to say it does not look good. This could be bad RAM, or a bad CPU, or the motherboard itself. Or something else altogether - which makes this hard to troubleshoot.

Hi Cecelia, I'm experiencing the same problem with my HP desktop. It was working great, then all of a sudden died. When I boot up, I get the long high pitch noise from the motherboard. Did you by chance figured out what the problem was? If so, please let me know! My motherboard is FoxconnMCP73M01H1 (HP Napa-GL8E).
