After a couple of instances of machine running check disk on startup this became a hard fault.
Machine will not boot and is stuck in a cycle where on switch on no keyboard is available to try to use F keys, no mouse activity is recongnised and this is not helped by operating from a usb keyboard.
I removed the hard drive but still no luck, it was suggested that unless this was a keyboard failure dragging down the system it was likely a motherboard fault.
I disconnected the keyboard (lifted keyboard and diconnected ribbon cable) and tried a USB keyboard but no good.
It then said For Realtek RTL8139(x) 8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet Controller V2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61 : media test failure, check cable. PXE - MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
