    Dell m301z random hibernate problems

    Hi

I bought a dell m301z laptop for the missus and she's been using it for about 3 weeks now.

The past few days a new problem has started where the screen goes black and pressing the keys or moving the touchpad etc. doesn't bring it back and then it hibernates on it's own. It does this quite randomly.

Another thing happens when you shut the computer down yourself, once it switches off, as she closes the lid it switches back on again!

Line removed due to offensive language

So anyway she called Dell today and they told her it could be a software issue so they transferred her to the software department who wanted £60 to help her solve the problem, which they would refund if it doesn't, the computer has a warranty? Why should we pay? Now if it was a software problem sure formatting the computer would solve it?

Anyway some help would be appreciated

    Thanks

I think you should read your warranty again. If this is software, as in the OS, and if you have an OEM license for the OS, they have to provide support for one year as part of their agreement with Microsoft.

I would however, look at the Power Options in Control Panel.

BTW, how do you know the computer comes on when she closes the lid? Lights flashing could just indicate charging mode.

The computer isn't just charging and it's become MUCH worse now.

It won't even switch on. As soon as you press the power button, the lights come on, but the screen is black and after a couple of seconds it just switches off again and then switches on by itself and repeats that cycle until you step in to somehow stop it (hold the power button, remove the battery)

    Any suggestions?
