DVD drive
I own a 2nd hand pc and the IDE dvd drive has stopped opening even through the pinhole. I bought a new SATA driveand installed it. Now comes the problem when I started the pc it would boot but it asked for a boot cd (which I did not get when I got the pc) I checked the connections first then he Bios which stated that it was booting from the hard drive, it does have 4 hd's but it was booting from the one with xp on. The only way I got the pc running again was to put the old IDE dvd drive back. The problem is I cant use it. Has any one any idea on how I can use the SATA dvd drive. I know the motherboard is a SATA one as one of the HD's is a SATA.

Sounds like a "boot order" problem. Recheck your settings in the BIOS for the device boot order.

I got it to work by disconecting all hd's apart from the one with xp on. Then I added my SATA hd, then my SATA dvd drive then the next ide hd and I found out that it was my last hd that was causing the problem as it asked for the cd again but with out that hd it works. The trouble is now how do I get all the data from that hd, All I can think of is to make room on one of the other hd's and disconect my SATA dvd reconect the broken dvd and the hd that was a pain and then transfer all the data over. Can anyone think of a better way to achieve this.
