    My laptop battery won't charge

My laptop battery wont charge but is idenifying that my adapter is plugged in. I have tried fannying on with the wire to see if there is a lose connection, but it still wont charge. I have tried taking the battery out and putting it back in while the laptop is still plugged into the mains, this did nothing. I have been told that it could be a virus that is stopping my computer from charging the battery, but nothing else on my laptop is going wrong apart from this. I have had the laptop for two years and I always have it plugged into the mains.. i have been told this could have overcharged the battery. I was hoping someone could tell me what is wrong with it! as i am a poor student who needs this computer to work and i dont have a clue about computer things!
My laptop is a Dell inspiron 1525

I would be very grateful for anyones help.

I have never heard of malware (virus) stopping the charging process. If the laptop works with the power pack plugged in, then it is likely the battery is bad. Note that it usually does not hurt to leave the charger plugged in, as long as the battery is allowed to discharge fully every so often.

Make sure your charger and the battery are 'compatible' if the all the specs don't match then your battery wont be able to run without being plugged in.
