Hello guys/gals, I was wondering, about Voltage of desktop memory. For example, my MB manual tells me that it supports 1.8V. I didn't read that so I have 2.0V memory. PC(6400) 800 dual channel memory is what I have installed. I have been running this memory now for about 2 years. About 1 month ago, I posted about my computer will not start up and it was one long beep so, I first dl new drivers for my 8800 GTS video card and the problem still was there. Then I moved my 2 sticks of 1gb each to the other 2 slots on my MB and now, for about 1 month problem hasn't happen since.
So, my ? about voltage of memory do I have to buy only 1.8v or will other voltages work? I am thinking about getting 4gb of memory (running windows 7 64bit) before I buy some I just need to know does voltage really matter?
Depends. If you overclock, the 2V RAM is likely to handle increased voltages better. If you don't OC, don't worry about it.I just need to know does voltage really matter?
You should, however, check your motherboard maker's website for your board for their QVL - qualified vendor list. This will list RAM they have tested and verified as compatible for your specific board. You don't have to buy off that list, but you should buy RAM with the same specs as those listed.
I don't over clock anything. My MB is an EVGA 780i. So, on EVGA site there should be list of QVL.
