DVD burner not burning
I posted an earlier thread about this issue but am still having problems. I have a DVD burner installed in my PC (a combo DVD/CD burner.) I can burn CD's but not DVD's. BIOS and Windows Device Manager both recognize the burner. I have tried three different burners with no change. The only thing I have noticed is the region is not set on the drive. Windows will not let me change it. When I try it tells me I may not have administrative rights; which I do. I'm at my wits end!

Do you have Windows XP Home, or Pro?
What program are you using to burn to the CD/DVDs?

I am using XP Home. I generally use ConvertXtoDVD 3 but I have also tried Power ISO, Nero, etc. and none of them will burn a DVD.

By default, Admin is actually hidden in Windows Home. For Admin rights, the only way that I know of to enable it is SAFE mode, but I have also found this method (which is risky if you don't know what you're doing):
1. Go to Start > Run, type in regedit, and click OK, or press Enter (Return for Mac Keyboards)
2. 2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserLis t in the Registry Editor.
3. Double-click the Administrator pane.
4. If the Administrator key doesn't exist, right-click, select New > DWORD Value, type in Administrator
5. Go to Step #3, and then, edit the value from 0 to 1
6-1. Log out from your current user, and login to the Administrator account
6-2. Go to Start > Run, and type in Control userpasswords (User Name Config.)
7. Go to the Administrator account, Create a password (recommended)
8. Click on the button that says: Yes, Make Private, and exit the User Name Config.
Now when you log out, there should supposedly be an Admin account. If there is not, then you'll probably need to try the SAFE mode method, which is below-
(From Yahoo Answers)
1. Log out and reboot your machine.
2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3. Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu with the arrow keys.
4. The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. Log in as Administrator. Administrator often has no password.
5. Do your stuff.
6. Finish up and reboot normally.
