PC shuts down and restarts automatically after putting a CD
hey everyone,
i seem to be havin a problem with my dvd rom. whenever i put any cd in the drive and it starts readin it. the computer automatically shuts down and restarts and i can't even install anythin due to this problem. whilst the rom is readin the cd, it makes strange sound like an electric current spark would. but the sparks are not visible so i'm not even sure if that is the problem.
any help would be widely appreciated.

what operating system?
how old is drive?
first if xp right click my computer>properties>advanced>start up recovery>UNCHECK in system failure automatically restartt "to get any error codes"....
could be a driver issue....right-click on the drive icon in My Computer, then go Properties - Hardware-device manager-driver tab -try to update or go to manufacture website and check for updates...
third - could be drive failure - need a new one
Does this happen when you insert blank DVDs or any other type of media?
power supply might be underpowered not supplying enough voltage.
try to start burning software if using any before u insert blank cd "to test cdrom autostart"
hope this helps so much to test

OS- Windows 7
Drive- BENQ 16x DVD ROM/ 1.5 years
and it happens when u put any type of cd or dvd in the drive. it happens sometimes but not all the time.
how can i know how much power supply do i need? I currently have a 7A voltage supplied for my computer system.

If you mean the supply to the PC from the mains is 7amps, then that is sufficient. This is more to do with the power supply in your PC, which supplies a limited total amount of watts amongst all the powered components of the system. Did this issue co-incide with you adding any more hardware to the system?

I apologize for my late replies as i've been busy in some other works.
yes, the power supply from the voltage or the mains is 7A. And no I suppose I haven't added any more harware to my system that i think would interrupt the power supply. And regarding about the issue, it's kind of complicated and hard to know what the problem is. I showed the problem to my brother (harware expert) and the problem didn't occur then. You can't exactly tell when the issue occurs as it appears randomly without any warning.
