Unhappy Laptop wont boot past "did not start succesfully" screen

I cannot get my laptop to boot at all. One of my kids pressed some buttons(no idea which ones) and now i'm unable to get past the windows did not start succesfully screen.
Its a fujitsu siemens amilo m 7400 running windows xp.

    What i've tried so far:

Leaving it to count down. Laptop shows xp start screen but then flashes 2 other screens; black then blue, very quickly that i cant read and returns to the did not start succesfully screen.

Last known good configuration is exactly the same as is reboot.

Safe mode runs as far as the file Mup.sys then stops, flashes and returns!!

I have the recovery disc which will run, asks me if i want to boot from cd, goes into windows setup, loads files and then asks if i want to set up or repair or quit . If i repair it goes to a blue screen error.
    DRIVER_CORRUPTED_MMPOOL
    STOP: 0x000000D0 (0x000000000,0x000000002,0x00000001,0x80827cb9)

If i go to set up it shows the same blue screen error.

So basically i am at the point where i cant do anything else!! Do i need a new laptop or is there a way of geting around this?

Thanks for the replies in advance.

Have you tried booting the machine with (any) bootable CD/DVD?

Can you enter the machines bios?

Access to the working bios is a good sign (functionality).

I havent got a bootable disc other than the recovery disc unfortunately

Will the machine boot from optical media?

From the menu where you select safe mode, last know good configuration, etc select disable automatic restart and hit enter and then proceed to boot up normally. Tell us what the proceeding blue screen says.

Also it might help to know more about your computer especially your operating system and computer make/model.
