Hey D-A-L!

The time has come once again for me to ask your advice on a computer buying decision I'll soon be making. Here's the rundown:

I'd like a laptop for school as I'm going into my 2nd year of college and I'm stuck writing papers and studying on a desktop that was really meant as more of a gaming console when I build it . Anyway, I've been browsing LogicBUY - News, Reviews, Deals & Coupons for HP, Lenovo, Laptops, Videogames, Gadgets a lot for what I would hope to be good prices and right now HP seems to have the most contenders. I'm looking for a 13.3"-15.6" notebook for about 300-500 bucks. Something supplies a significant performance increase over other options for about 50 dollars more is also a potential possibility (HP Pavillion dv6z being my main focus right now). Basically I'd like to get the most bang for my buck while still keeping the laptop thin and light with a nice keyboard. I plan on installing Ubuntu on the machine so that I won't be tempted to game while working, so if you all have any knowledge about whether or not certain machines are compatible with Ubuntu or not, your input would be seriously appreciated.

first i was looking for Sony... but its cost more...
