Start by replacing the CMOS battery. Losing your clock settings is a common symptom of a failing, weak, or bad battery. Power down AND UNPLUG the computer from the wall. Remove the side panel and touch bare metal of the case to discharge any damaging static in your body. Use something sturdy and non-conductive to pry the old battery out - a thumbnail works if you can reach with it. Check your motherboard manual for battery location removal instructions. It is most likely a CR2032 or equivalent and they cost a couple dollars. Take the battery with you to your local battery/camera/watch counter as most will recycle. Do not touch the new battery with your bare fingers - skin oils promote corrosion and attract dust. I put a clean sock over my hand. After inserting the new battery, make sure all cable connections are tight and secure and the interior of the case is clean of heat trapping dusk.
With the case clean and new battery installed, reconnect power and upon your first boot, boot directly into the BIOS Setup Menu and verify your drives are properly identified, on-board sound is enabled, then set your data and time. Then make sure you select "Save" and Exit to boot normally. Hopefully, all will work now.

I finally got the CMOS battery replaced and followed your directions. Still no sound and dvd does not work. But my clock is keeping time now.

Is the DVD drive seen in the BIOS. And for sound, you need to make sure it is enabled in the BIOS and then the proper drivers are installed too. Then you should see the sound device in Device Manager, with no errors.

Could not find anything about DVD or sound in BIOS. I did come across Run Hard Drive self test. That took over an hour and after I restarted my computer my sound came back and my DVD worked. Then windows update notice said I had critical updates. I check each of them and nothing was said about it causing any problems so I updated. Restarted and now I not only do not have sound I do not even have the icon anymore but the DVD still work. I tried restore to before update but that made no difference except the icon came back with the red dot with an X in it, so no sound with the pop up of no audio deviceis installed which is what is always says when I lose the sound.
Hey at lease now I have correct time and my DVD back. But the sound issue has been a major problem.
Thanks for any help.
