    Hard Disk Recognition Problem

    Hello All!

My Acer laptop packed up last week and I decided it was a HD problem. I bought a brand new HD and have been trying to install it but am encountering problems.

I've put in the HD and have also put in the Windows XP set-up disk. I hit 'enter' for the set-up to continue and get the following message
"Set-up did not find any Hard Disk drives in your computer........set-up cannot continue"

However, if I restart the computer and press F2 to enter BIOS set-up the computer recognises the new HD and shows the new code for it.

Also if I insert a Linux Mint live CD the laptop runs perfectly but I realise this does not utilise the HD drive but seems to prove that the rest of the laptop is in working order.

If anyone has any advice I really would be very grateful.
    Thanks
    C

It sounds like you need to format your new drive. Right now, without a filesystem on the disk, XP does not know how to write to the disk.

It might be easiest if you boot to your Linux disk and then format the drive.
