Hi,
I have recently been given a D-Link DI-604 router by a friend. I plugged it into my laptop and entered the address found in the instruction book into my web browser but it just says that site cannot be found (address given is http://192.168.0.1). I have tried to reset using the reset button on back but no luck there. I cannot access the internet through the router. It just says limited or no connectivity. Any help in this matter would be most appreciated.
Thank you.
Which port did you plug your notebook into? It should be one of the 4 LAN ports.
I plugged the network connection into the WAN port and my laptop in to port #1. Then tried each port after no luck.
And did you reboot the laptop after connection so it could get a new IP assignment from the router?
It is looking like the router is bad.
Yes. When all had finished loading I looked on the Network Connections in the support tab and details and noticed that all of the fields in there that are usually filled (when running straight from modem) were not. I had an IP address and a subnet mask but no default gateway or any of the other things. Also noticed that when I unplug the WAN and leave connected to the Laptop it still says in network connection Limited Connectivity which should say network cable unplugged. So i think the router is not sending (or recieving) signals from the laptop. Is there any way for me to access the firmware in the router without going through my web browser?
No.Is there any way for me to access the firmware in the router without going through my web browser?
But I think it may still be a problem with your machine. If you open a command prompt, and enter ipconfig /all you should see the IP address assigned to you by the router. If not there, I would clear assignment. Enter ipconfig /? to see the commands or Microsoft Article - Ipconfig. Note the options to flush and renew.
Also, you might try WinSockFix. See Jim's instructions here: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/windows-xp...tml#post233554
