Shuts down during start up
Hello, I have a E-Machine T3626 that shuts down after the splash page. (Will stay on in CMOS)
I have tried multiple OS on this machine, 2 differnet versions of Linux, 1 bootable on CD.
It shuts down somewhere before a full boot while testing hardware. (Unfortunately no matter how many times I try and read the last line I never get it.)
Windows XP - gets to "improper shut down select Safe or Last known good configuation" then shuts down after that.
I have done everything but change out Motherboard, waiting for you to confirm it is that.
I have disconected Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Floppy, CD-ROM, USB Cables, Media-Card Cables, Hard-Drive, RAM, Cooling Fan, PCI Cards.
I switched out the Power Supply for equivilant
Did not try replacing Mother Board Battery. Can I simply switch with nearby computer? What harm will this process do to nearby computer?

Hello is anyone able to help?
-
Have you tried to enter the machines bios and set it to factory defaults?
-
I have tried: Load Optimized Defaults / Load Fail-Safe Defaults / moved jumper on motherboard - CLR CMOS.
Do these qualify as restore to Factory settings. Also I am researching "Flashing BIOS". Can you assist in this process for my ECS motherboard Model # MCP61SM-GM Version 1.0
I have tried to find on their website but it does not exist for any level of support.

Load Fail-Safe Defaults is what I meant.
If you've never flashed a bios before *WAIT* until further research is done on your machine. A wrong flash file or wrong MB identification can render your machine useless without getting a shop to correct it.
Researching..............................

That machine comes with Vista installed;
eMachines Official Site - - T3626 Product Details
According to this;
eMachines Support: Drivers and Downloads (Desktop, T Series, T3626)
there is no support as the machine is/was designed for Vista.
XP drivers for that hardware may not exist.

Thank you very much for all your help and patience. I am curious as I don't even get to the OS Vista/XP/Linux why does it matter what is on the machine? I had seen some chats about using a BIOS Flash as a last resort to replacing Motherboard, and that is what I am ready to do at this point.
-
A BIOS Flash is usually a last resort to get something working/supported. It's generally not required.
Your machine (DESIGNED for Vista) doesn't have (embedded) hardware drivers for XP or Windows 7. You can load/install XP, but modems, sound, etc won't work without buying seperate devices and installing them if there's enough open motherboard slots available.

Sorry for the delay. If you are steering me away from a BIOS flash, can you assist in other suggestions in troubleshooting this. I took over this machine with a version of Linux on the HD. I know that it was intended for Vista by the sticker on the back of the machine. Next the machine was actually running its OS on a CD which is actually acting as a Captive Portal for controlling the internet. (Can't post link) is a link to site for software. (PublicIP ZoneCD) This machine was up and running for 2 years. Now it is dead. On its way down it would get up and running for 10-15 minutes and then crash 1 out of 10 tries. First step was check temperatures, then power supply, then remove all unnecessary components and here I am reaching out to you for help.

OK, from the beginning (what do you have to work with);
Do you want to use the machine with Vista?
Do you have a Vista DVD?
Is there a Recovery Partition on the hard disk (ie - D:, or E:)?
