I've tried the Sound thing, there were no disabled sevices under the Playback tab, I checked the Recording tab too just incase and there were 2 in there, I enabled them both just in case, didnt work.
The microsoft Fix It thing didnt work either
I think I'm just going to have to resign myself that I'ce got a C**p CD rom doodat and go and complain like hell to the guy that built it next time I go home. I'm pretty sure it's still under warranty, I'll ask for a new drive and NOT a matsurubbish one this time pleaseandthankyou.

Sorry I wasn't able to help. If its still under warranty it would be be the best way to go.

Wont be able to take it back for a couple of weeks, too far to travel, but I'll post back here with the outcome when I do. Just incase anyone else is having the same trouble!

*update*
Finally got back home and took the laptop back to the shop, computer guy couldnt work out what the hell was wrong with it so he put me a new and different drive in instead!
