SERIOUS! output/input hardware problem
here is the problem:
my new 3-4 month old comp was working completely fine untill this morning and it was shut off normally last night. for some reason my comp will turn on (i know it turns on cuz the on light is on and i can hear the fans and also the CD drive tray will come in and out when the button is pressed) but the mouse, keyboard, and monitor will not recieve and imput/output (the screen is black and the mouse and keyboard arent on). these ARE plugged in completely. also the internet card jack is plugged in but my other comps, that are on the same network and could and have shared files before with the broken comp, dont detect the broken comp. i even pinged the ip. i think that what is wrong is that all of the output/imput hardware (keyboard, mouse, monitor, internet card jack, speaker, USB, etc.) are not working or may not be powered up through the comp. the monitor is on (stand-by mode (the monitor power button light is orange color)) however, but that is becuase it gets its own power source from the wall outlet not through the comp like the mouse or key board. i can't even tell what is going on cuz the screen is black.
(i know fairly enough about computers so dont treat me like a computer noob)
here are the specs (however these arent definite on account that i cant check with my broken comp. pleasse be sure to ask me of any specs i missed.):
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (I am pretty sure it already has SP2 but that is not the prob since i have had SP2 for about a month already)
System Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation
System Model: Dimension XPS (its a big fat blue comp that is prolly 2x the normal size dell. new model)
BIOS: not sure (probably default system BIOS)
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.53GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM (Duel 512mb ram sticks i think)
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0a
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor by Dell
Graphics: ATI Radeon (9200) might be 9000 or something else but i am sure it is an ATI card)
Sound: not sure (might be SoundMAX Digital Audio)
Hard drive: 150gb total (have 2 C:\ and D:\ with 75 gb each)
please ask me as much questions as it will take to fix my comp!
Thanks in advance!
ADDED:
also i tested the mouse from the broken comp on my working comp and it works so i am sure it is the comp and not the actual mouse, keyboard, etc.
reminder: my cd drive tray will come out and in when i press the button
Also i dont think that anything spilled on it, but you can never be too sure with a 12-year-old boy...
also i have yet to take the comp apart and examine it, but i thought it would be smarter to post my prob first before i mess with anything.
when i turn it on there are no beeps from the BIOS and i dont hear the hard drive chugging or clicking.
after i press the on button and the lcd on light turns green and the monitor doesnt show anything, when i press the power button to turn it off, it turns off right away, there is no pause, so i think that it is turning off fast because it doesnt have to shut down windows, so i dont think that windows is even starting up.
also i live in southern california and its raining (first time in like 6 months..), maybe a power surge happened overnight?
also i dont smell anything like a burning smell coming from my comp so i dont think anything is fried.
yay i got the specs from the dell service tag thingy, n/m here it is:

i fixed it! what i did was i unplugged all the external hardware except for the monitor and now it starts. then i plugged in everything else one at a time rebooting every time and it still works after everything is plugged back in.
does anyone know what WAS wrong with my comp anyway just in case it happens again and the unplugging doesnt fix it?
