Not sure if this is the right place to put this. Im looking at buying a new computer, at my age I am not up on all the new stuff. This is what I was quoted for $2256.96 Australian.
Motherboard - Gigabyte H55-UD3H
CPU - Intel I7 860 2.8GHZ
Chassis - Thermaltake V3 black edition
PSU - CoolerMaster Silent Power 850W
Memory - 2 x KT Hyper X 2GB 1066MHZ
Hard Drive - 2 x WD Cviar GP 500GB (Configured in raid 0 for speed)
Optical Drive - 2 x LG 22x DVD burner
Video Card - 2 x 1GB DDR3 Asus Nvidia GTS250 (Configured in SLI)
TV Tuner - Fusion Dual 4 DVB-T PCI Card Digital TV
Could someone let me know if this is reasonable equipment. I know prices & products vary between countys. Help is greatly appreciated.
Age has nothing to do with it. Too young? Too old? My guess from your choices is you feel you are too young. If too old, you would have gone conservative. Too young and you go liberal - as you have done.at my age I am not up on all the new stuff
In any case, you committed the classic error. You did not tell us what you plan to use this machine for.
This is a monster machine - WAY overkill, for most people. Do note that RAID0 rarely results in a performance boost you can see (assuming good drives and lots of RAM) but it does greatly increase the risk of a total loss of data in the event of a failure, because with RAID0, both drives must be running perfectly all the time. A loss of one drive means of loss of everything.Could someone let me know if this is reasonable equipment
Most folks don't need two DVD burners. And I don't see a monitor, OS, keyboard, or mouse listed. You may have these on hand, but you did not mention that.
Note that for your OS, you cannot use an existing copy if it came with another computer, unless it is a "Retail" copy of Windows, and has been removed from the other machine. You cannot legally transfer ANY OEM version of Windows to ANY new computer. Period.
Mostly just want speed to run 3 or 4 programs at the same time, plus Skype and games. I have monitor and mouse, speakers etc. Thanks about the Retail version, didnt know that. Im not sure about going to 7, when I went from ME to XP I lost thousands of dollars in games & programs
Well, XP is 10 year old technology, written when security was not an issue. If your programs don't have current versions, it is time to learn new games.
