    Computer starts.. but shuts down after 2-10 secs

    So since the other week my computer has been having this problem. I just woke up as normal and turned it on, and it starts up, and the CPU fan spins really loudly. After around 3-10 seconds, which varies, the computer switches itself off. I have looked all over the internet for a solution to this problem and found people with similar problems, but all problems have not been solved.
    I have tried changing the RAM slot, which had no effect. I have also completely cleaned the top of the CPU fan and underneath the fan itself, which also had no effect. I also reset the cmos, but im not too sure if i did this correctly. The MOBO itself gives the image of nothing being broken or out of place, if you understand what i mean by that.

    Do you think of this to be a CPU problem or a fan problem? or something completely different?
    please, help me out! O:

    Hi Friend,
    You might also check the heatsink for the CPU. If it is not making a good connection, it will not cool properly and it will cause the system to shutdown. And could this possibly be caused by a virus.

    Thanks,
    James

    Welcome to D-A-L.

    The symptoms indicate;

    1. Cleaning of cooling elements/properties

    2. Bad CPU

    3. Bad motherboard

    4. Bad memory

    If the CPU heatsink has been removed from the CPU for any reason, it should be cleaned of all old thermal compound. (CPU chip AND the heatsink to CPU mating surface.) Apply a new coating of thermal compound (Artic Silver is one brand). Follow the instructions carefully. Too much is as bad as not enough.
