    Yes that's what is suggested. Don't push to hard on the power (start) button.
    Just hold it down.
    The theory being that holding in the power button helps discharge any remaining power in the power supply which had a failsafe trip because of a power surge just before a power outage.
    Its seem to have worked for some so for time it will take to do it its worth a try.

    I will try that in the morning. All tho, just curious about something and that is, what happens when the cpu goes out? Are the syptoms like what I described in this post?

    If the machine fails to utilize any known good monitor which is connected, and connections properties are correct, I'd say the machine has failed on the hardware level.

    Installed a new MB and everything is working fine. However, she did tell me the night before there was a lighting storm. She did have it off and was plugged into a surge protector but maybe somehow the MB got fried?

    Quite possible. I make it a practice to physically disconnect computers from the power outlet during severe thunder storms.
