I have a 4 year old Toshiba Satellite M45-S355 running Windows XP. It has a multimedia card reader on the front. I have used it in the past to transfer pictures to my laptop, but now it has stopped working. Any SD card I insert locks up my system so that not even my mouse will move. I have to hold down the power button for a manual shutdown, then restart the system. I have tried multiple cards all with the same result. I have tried reinstalling the driver. I have 85 pics on an SD card from my last cell phone. I really don't want to have to email all 85 to myself. Any other ideas on how to fix this problem? TIA!

It sounds like the reader is bad. I would just forget it is there and buy a new USB reader.
